Google is doing something a little different with its next Pixel launch. Again.
Comedian and former The Daily Show host Trevor Noah will host the Made by Google 2026 event on August 12, putting another recognizable entertainment figure at the center of what used to be a fairly traditional hardware presentation.
The event takes place in New York City and begins at 6PM ET. Google is expected to use the show to unveil its next generation of Pixel hardware, with the Pixel 11 series sitting firmly at the center of attention.
Trevor Noah Takes Over the Made by Google Stage
Google confirmed Noah’s involvement through a promotional video for the upcoming event.
He won’t be the only familiar face there.
The event is also set to feature podcast host Alex Cooper, Indian cricket star Shubman Gill, Japanese actress Ayami Nakajo, and NBA star Stephen Curry.
That celebrity-heavy lineup isn’t exactly an accident.
Google has been steadily turning its hardware reveals into something broader than a room full of product executives discussing processors and camera sensors. Last year, Jimmy Fallon hosted the company’s Pixel event, giving the presentation a format that leaned noticeably closer to entertainment television than the usual Silicon Valley keynote.
Trevor Noah suggests Google isn’t backing away from that idea.
If anything, it appears to be leaning further into it.
Pixel 11 Is Still the Main Attraction
The famous faces may get plenty of screen time, but people tuning in on August 12 will mostly be watching for the hardware.
Google has already teased the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, while promotional footage has offered quick looks at what appears to be a new Pixel phone alongside a smartwatch.
The broader Pixel 11 family is expected to be the headline announcement.
Reports surrounding the event point toward multiple Pixel 11 models, while leaks have already circulated showing alleged device images, specifications and other hardware details ahead of Google’s official presentation.
As usual with pre-launch leaks, though, there’s a line between what Google has actually announced and what’s floating around online. The final specifications, pricing and regional availability will matter far more once Google puts them on stage.
Google’s Hardware Event Is Becoming an Entertainment Show
The format may be almost as interesting as the products this year.
Tech launches have spent decades following roughly the same script: executive walks onstage, dramatic product video plays, specifications appear on a giant screen, applause follows.
Google seems increasingly interested in breaking that routine.
Putting Trevor Noah in charge gives the company someone who can carry a live audience, handle unscripted moments and make a hardware launch accessible to viewers who couldn’t care less about semiconductor manufacturing or benchmark charts.
There’s an obvious marketing advantage here too. A Pixel announcement featuring Noah, Curry and other mainstream personalities can travel well beyond the usual technology-news audience.
Google isn’t just trying to convince existing Android fans to upgrade. It wants Pixel to feel like a mainstream consumer brand.
That’s a much bigger job.
Pixel Watch and Other Google Devices Could Appear
Phones probably won’t have the stage to themselves.
Google’s teaser includes what appears to be a smartwatch, and expectations are already building around the company’s next wearable generation.
Reports ahead of Made by Google 2026 have pointed toward a possible Pixel Watch 5, alongside other potential hardware announcements.
There has also been speculation surrounding new accessories and additional devices in Google’s growing hardware ecosystem.
Some of those rumors will inevitably be wrong. That’s part of the week-before-a-Pixel-launch ritual at this point.
What Google has made clear is that this will be a hardware-focused event rather than a single-phone reveal.
Pricing Could Be the Uncomfortable Part
The Pixel 11 launch may come with one detail buyers won’t be excited about: higher prices.
Reports and leaks circulating ahead of the event have suggested that some new Pixel models could cost more than their predecessors.
Nothing matters on that front until Google announces official pricing, but it creates an interesting problem.
Google has spent years trying to establish Pixel as a serious alternative to Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy flagships. Moving prices higher could strengthen that premium positioning — or simply make people hold onto their existing phones for another year.
A flashy launch won’t answer that question.
The price slide probably will.
