Huawei reenters Vietnam market with Mate X7 foldable after five years

Huawei returns to Vietnam with the Mate X7 foldable phone after leaving the country’s smartphone market in 2020. The return marks Huawei’s re entry into Vietnam’s premium mobile segment following a long absence tied to global trade restrictions.

Launch plan

Huawei listed the Mate X7 on its official Vietnam website, confirming plans to resume phone sales in the country. The company stopped selling smartphones locally in April 2020 after losing access to Google services. That disruption affected distribution and consumer demand. The Mate X7 was first released in China in November 2025 before expanding to other markets. Vietnam becomes one of the first Southeast Asian countries to receive the device.

Pricing and availability

Local retailers expect the Mate X7 to arrive in Vietnam by late January or early February. Reported pricing starts at no less than 40 million Vietnamese dong, equal to about 1,500 US dollars. The launch is expected to include bundled gifts and premium after sales support. Huawei has not announced official carrier partnerships for the release.

Software choice

The Vietnamese version of the Mate X7 will run EMUI, Huawei’s Android based operating system. This differs from HarmonyOS, which Huawei uses in China. EMUI allows broader app compatibility for international users. The same software version is used for Mate X7 models sold in Europe.

Hardware details

The Mate X7 is a book style foldable phone. It measures about 9.5 millimeters when folded and 4.5 millimeters when unfolded. The device weighs roughly 235 grams. The inner display measures about 8 inches, while the outer screen measures 6.49 inches. The phone meets IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Camera system

The rear camera setup includes a 50 megapixel main sensor with stabilization, a 50 megapixel telephoto lens, and a 40 megapixel ultra wide camera. The device includes two 8 megapixel front cameras placed on the inner and outer screens. Some configurations offer up to 20 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage.

Huawei returns to Vietnam with the Mate X7 as it re enters a competitive high end smartphone market. The launch brings foldable hardware back to local consumers after five years without Huawei branded phones.
